FIRST CONFESSION AND HOLY COMMUNION - CHILDREN ATTENDING NON-CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
at Sacred Heart Church

Before entering their First Holy Communion year, children in Non-Catholic schools must have one year of ‘Catholic’ Religious Education. Purple Registration Forms are now available at the back of the Church. These sessions are to support parents of Catholic children who are not in Catholic Schools, in preparing them for their First Communion Year, when they will be in Year 3.

PARENTS whose child will be in at least Year 2 of Primary Education in September each year and who have fulfilled the promises they made when their child was baptised by ‘bringing the child up in the PRACTICE of the faith’ are invited to register their child for our Pre First Communion Programme. Before doing so parents, who are the first and best teachers of the faith should ask themselves:

- Have I taught my child to make the Sign of the Cross?
- Have I taught my child to pray at home, particularly each morning and evening?
- Have I introduced my child to Jesus by reading them stories about Jesus in a children’s bible?

Parents should also ask themselves:
- Am I a good example to my child as regards my moral behaviour and have started to teach them the difference between right and wrong?
- Do I bring my child to Sunday Mass so that they can worship God with the community of which they are part?

If parents have begun doing all of these things then both they and their child will be ready to start Pre First Communion Year.

Registration Forms will be available at the back of the church from June to August each year.

IF your child WAS NOT baptised here at the Sacred Heart and St. Joseph’s, you will need to produce a copy of the child’s Baptismal Certificate with the registration form.

If you feel that you are prepared to make this commitment in good faith, please complete the form and return it to Father John at the Presbytery.

Children in Non-Catholic Schools - Post First Communion Year - Years 4&5
Starting after the summer, we will be supporting parents whose children will be in Years 4 or 5 of Primary Education in Non-Catholic Schools, and who have already made their First Communion by having Religious Education sessions with the children. Please register your child on the green forms at the back of the Church. It is hoped that we will be able to continue to support these same parents as their children advance in Primary Education.
