The church hosts a number of activities and events throughout the year, and if you are interested in either helping out or just participating, then details of all that is going on at Sacred Heart will appear here in due course.
(please scroll down to view current events in date order)
LET'S NOT FORGET: That as Roman Catholics we believe that Jesus is really present in the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle, at the back of the Sanctuary and this is signified by the light burning there. Therefore, whenever we come into Church and before we go out we should acknowledge that presence, by bending our knee to touch the ground (genuflecting). It is not necessary to make the sign of the cross at the same time. Parents are asked to please teach their children. Let’s not forget!
CATECHETICS 2012
FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2012:
Parents of children in at least Year 3 in September 2011, and who are in a Catholic school or who are in a Non-Catholic school and who have completed the preparatory year of Religious Education, are now invited to register their child for First Confession and First Communion in 2012. The yellow Registration forms are on the table at the back of the church.
CHILDREN IN NON-CATHOLIC SCHOOLS - CHILDREN IN YEAR 2 IN SEPTEMBER 2011:
Before entering their First Holy Communion year, children in Non-Catholic schools must have one year of ‘Catholic’ Religious Education. Purple Registration Forms are now available at the back of the Church. These sessions are to support parents of Catholic children who are not in Catholic Schools, in preparing them for their First Communion Year, when they will be in Year 3.
CHILDREN IN NON-CATHOLIC SCHOOLS - POST FIRST COMMUNION YEAR - YEARS 4&5:
Starting after the summer, we will be supporting parents whose children will be in Years 4 or 5 of Primary Education in Non-Catholic Schools, and who have already made their First Communion by having Religious Education sessions with the children. Please register your child on the green forms at the back of the Church. It is hoped that we will be able to continue to support these same parents as their children advance in Primary Education.
SCHOOL ADMISSIONS: A reminder that in due course there will be the usual round of applications to our Catholic Primary and Secondary schools, which requires the Parish Priest to provide a priest’s reference as testimony of Catholic practice, which will be taken to be attendance, every week, at Sunday (or Saturday evening) Mass. This is in accordance with the guidance for Parish priests, http://atschool.eduweb.co.uk/ianbeck/prf4.pdf. This concerns those whose children will be entering Reception or Year 7 in September 2012.
THE SEARCH IS ON for:
1. Adults who wish to be baptised
2. Adults who are already baptised in another Christian denomination and who now wish to become members of the Roman Catholic Church.
3. Adults who are baptised in the Catholic Church, and
who might not yet have either been confirmed or made their First Communion.
4. Any Catholic who wants to find out more or deepen their Catholic Faith.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Catholic, and are considering joining the RCIA programme, you will need to speak to Fr. John or the programme catechists Dcn. Adrian and Mary Hallett.
On Thursday’s, 16th June & 7th July, we will be having ‘Come and See’ sessions, from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. until 9.30 p.m.
when we will give a general overview of the R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process which will begin after the summer.
We are also looking for potential catechists and helpers. If anyone falls into any of the above categories, we hope to see you on the 16th June or 7th July.
BAPTISM PREPARATION: The next Baptism Preparation sessions are on the two Saturday mornings, the 9th and 16th July from 10.30 a.m. - 12 noon in our Parish Hall. If you have a child to be baptised or if you are expecting a child, please contact Fr. John, so that we have the details before the Preparation Course.
It usually happens the week after a course is finished that parishioners ring up and ask to have their children baptised.
If you know someone, either in your family or in your locality, who does not attend Mass regularly but would still like to have their child/children baptised, please ask them to call 01920 462140 as soon as possible.
CHILDRENS CONFESSIONS: Parents are reminded that when their child(ren) were baptised, that they promised to bring up their child(ren) in the PRACTICE of the Faith.
For those children who have made their First Confession, this means particularly that it is the parents responsibility, to make sure that their child goes to confession; at some time between Ash Wednesday and Trinity Sunday (19th June).
This is best done during Lent in preparation for Easter, the Great Feast of the Resurrection of the Lord. Please see below for times of confessions.
MESSAGE FROM ARCHBISHOP VINCENT:
During the coming year, it is hoped that we will begin to use the new English edition of the Roman Missal. Before we begin to familiarise ourselves with the new translation it is important that we take the opportunity to remind ourselves of what we do and what we are part of when we celebrate the Mass.
Pope Benedict emphasised the importance of this in his final words with the Bishops of England and Wales, and Scotland when he met with us at Oscott College at the end of his State Visit.
“I encourage you now to seize the opportunity that the new translation offers for in-depth catechesis on the Eucharist and renewed devotion in the manner of its celebration. “The more lively the Eucharistic faith of the people of God, the deeper its sharing in ecclesial life in steadfast commitment to the mission entrusted by Christ to his disciples”” (Sacramentum Caritatis, 6)
Pope Benedict XVI
To the Bishops of England and Wales, and Scotland, 19 September 2010.
In our Diocese the process of catechesis and formation is being coordinated under the title: Praying the Mass. It begins in January 2011 and will continue until at least the Summer of 2012, offering support and encouragement as we prepare for the new Missal, and begin to use it.
This first part of the process runs from February to June and each month offers a chance to re-consider the nature, meaning and function of the different parts of the Mass. There is an opportunity to look again at how the parish celebrates, as well as for reflection - as individuals or in groups - on the theology of the Mass.
A range of support material for this process, for clergy and liturgy groups, for very adult member of the parish, and for children have been prepared. They will be introduced at a series of Diocesan meetings for priests and deacons beginning this month. Details to follow. Watch this space!
